October 14, 2009: At a press conference today representatives of the federal and provincial governments announced infrastructure investments that will allow for the construction of a new research facility for the Centre for Structural and Functional Genomics. Read the press release for details and visit the News section of our website to get more information as it becomes available.
The Centre for Structural and Functional Genomics is currently located in the Richard J. Renaud Science Complex (SP Building) at Concordia University's beautiful Loyola Campus, located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The CSFG comprises of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team of people, including biologists, biochemists and bioinformaticians. With the help of a $3 million CFI grant, a state-of-the-art core genomics facility has been assembled along with the computational resources necessary to sequence, process and store the genetic information of various organisms.
The emergence of genomics and bioinformatics has revolutionized the way the pharmaceutical and agricultural industries conduct research and development. In fact, these fields have advanced so rapidly in recent years that many companies are now having trouble recruiting people with the proper training to help them conduct this type of research.
Members of the CSFG are active in research that contributes to some of the most important industrial clusters involved in Montreal’s development, including the bio-food and paper/wood industries.
